The Whitecourt Wolverines are back in isolation and team activities suspended until around May 11 due to a positive COVID result in their cohort, the team announced in an April 27 statement.
The Wolverines and Bonnyville Pontiacs each had their activities suspended as a result of the test result, under AJHL’s Return to Play protocols.
The Whitecourt team last played the Pontiacs in Bonnyville April 24 and 25.
The Wolverines were previously in isolation from early- to mid-April, along with the Drayton Valley Thunder and Grande Prairie Storm cohorts.
That last pause in activities was triggered by a positive COVID-19 result in the Drayton Valley cohort.
According to an April 1 AJHL statement, positive COVID results were subsequently found in all three teams.
Most of the Wolverines players and all coaching staff came out of isolation April 14 and then hosted the Pontiacs in two games that weekend.
According to the AJHL, all teams had committed to taking private PCR testing through DynaLIFE each week.
“If a member of the AJHL cohort – players or staff – test positive for COVID-19 at any point in the season, the team will be required to isolate and suspend all in-person team activities for 14 days,” the AJHL website reads.
